The Mercian Trust contributes to 'Solving the SEND Crisis' report

Today marks the official publication of the House of Commons, Education Committee’s report, “Solving the SEND Crisis.”

This is an important document for everyone committed to inclusive education and better outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

We are proud that our trust’s voice is represented in the national conversation, with special thanks to Conrad Bourne, our Director for SEND, for his expert evidence submitted to the committee and for his ongoing leadership in this area.
Dan Parkes, CEO, said: Conrad’s contribution to the Committee’s inquiry - highlighting the need for clarity, structure, and ambition in SEND provision - reflects the values and relentless commitment I see across our Mercian schools.

We want to take this opportunity to celebrate the amazing work happening across our trust:

  • Our special school, Oakwood School, which provides outstanding, personalised support for our students with the most complex needs.
  • Our schools with Specialist Resource Provisions (SRPs), which offer targeted expertise and inclusive opportunities for children who need additional support.
  • And our inclusive mainstream schools, where staff go above and beyond to ensure children and young people are welcomed and valued - experiencing a sense of belonging required to thrive, flourish and  discover their own purpose and meaning.

We all recognise there is much more to do - but we want to thank every member of staff, every volunteer, and partner who makes inclusion a reality - not just a policy aspiration.

We encourage everyone with an interest in SEND to read the report and reflect on its recommendations. Together, we must build a system that truly works for all.
